e-2 was established in 1997 to explore the creative and cultural potential of new media. e-2 commissioned and presented substantial new works in new media with up and coming contemporary artists. e-2 also worked in partnership with artists and arts organisations, to research, advise on, create and support projects for new media, new platforms and new spaces.
e-2 was one of the UK’s leading digital arts organisations, developing innovative projects within new media, new platforms and new spaces. e-2 worked closely with artists and cultural organisations, providing resources in creative consultancy, research, production and commissioning - often in partnership.
e-2 took on challenging and interesting projects ranging from offering advice, research and support to individual artists through the complex process of creating a new work to be made or exhibited using digital technology; undertaking research and feasibility on new projects for the visual arts; large scale organisational consultancy and complete redesign for large, complex websites. e-2 provides complete, advanced technical production and support, from hosting and internet server set-up through to implementation of database functionality, content management systems, data capture and statistics.
e-2 developed a series of powerful new works, seeking to develop the potential of the internet and other digital media as significant sites for contemporary art and culture. Artists were invited to explore the conceptual space of the internet, and to create new works which challenge accepted views of art and its contexts.
e-2 worked closely with artists, from the germ of an idea, through the whole commissioning process, giving both curatorial and technical support and has built up an impressive track record of works - from Janice Kerbel’s irreverent and intelligent take on time-share rip-offs, to Tomoko Takahashi’s take on word processing systems. Takahashi’s Word Perhect formed part of her Turner Prize nomination in 2000 - the first digital work to be recognised by such a prestigious award in the UK.
e-2 spawned p-2 in 2010, and it’s activities between 1997 and 2010 are archived on this website.
